Artist Statement
I paint in an abstract expressionist style.
My paintings are intuitive, emotional.
With each painting I make, it is my aim to create something beautiful- visually and emotionally.
I approach the canvas with an idea or inspiration and lose myself in the process- allowing the color, texture, and mood of the painting to dictate my next step until finally the visual reflects the feeling.
My work is at once elegant and chaotic...sophisticated and relatable just like my personality.
Sometimes I pour the paint onto the canvas, sometimes I use a palette knife.
sometimes I cut up delicate pieces of paper and make joyful flower bouquets.
I paint the desert and the mountains and the ocean.
I’ve painted birds and butterflies, rice fields, visions that have come to me in dreams and music.
Like you, I contain multitudes. My paintings are me. Every different mood and experience and facet of my personality.
Thanks for coming along for the ride.
ABOUT ME:
I grew up in Oak Park, Illinois right outside of Chicago. As long as I can remember, I've always loved to paint and have had an obsession with and a keen sense of color.
The true beginning of my art education started in the galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago- where I'd often skip school to take the train downtown to spend the day there among the masterworks. Wanting to follow in the footsteps of Georgia O'Keefe, I moved to New Mexico where I received a BAFA in painting from the University of New Mexico.
I've traveled and lived all over the world. Nature, color, music, travel and dreams inspire me.
Before becoming a full-time artist, I worked for 18 years in the art business. Working as an art consultant, gallery director, artist's assistant, etc. Working with some of the most successful artists and gallerists in the world including my mentor, Brad Smith, has enriched me as an artist both creatively and professionally.
Please contact me to make a purchase, schedule a visit to my studio in Albuquerque, about representation or commissions.
I'd love to hear from you.
